Values-Based Banking. Always.
Honesty, loyalty and integrity. Values like these have driven BankNorth since the beginning.
For nearly 115 years, the Arthur, N.D.-based bank’s owners and employees have been serving individuals, families and businesses while supporting and improving communities where the bank has branches.
BankNorth offers a wide range of financial products and services, like savings and checking accounts; personal, business and farm and ranch loans; and internet-based solutions like online banking and bill pay, mobile check deposit, remote deposit capture. Nearly everything that can be accomplished at one of its branch locations can also be done on its mobile app.
“If you want to boil it down to one thing, I think our deep commitment to supporting people and our communities is what really sets us apart,” BankNorth President James L. Williams III said. “Our customers are also our neighbors, so we understand what it means – and what it takes – to maintain our quality of life and way of life.”
Community involvement has been a key since the company was founded as First State Bank or Arthur in 1905. As just one example, BankNorth donates thousands to local Dollars for Scholars programs every year. Its employees are also community leaders in their own right, donating hundreds of hours to volunteering, serving on committees and holding offices on school and civic boards.
Its community commitment is probably best illustrated by the banking crisis of the early 1930s, when banks in all 48 states closed or placed restrictions on how much money depositors could withdraw. Then, and throughout the Great Depression, First State Bank of Arthur made sure all demands were met and customers never lost money deposited in the bank.
“It’s about being a stand-up neighbor, lending a hand through tough times, celebrating and building together in good times, being there and making things easier all the time,” Williams said. “That’s how we’ve been doing business as a family-owned, locally operated bank for more than a century.”
Over the years, the family-owned, locally operated bank expanded through acquisitions in southeastern North Dakota towns, and in 1992 it became First State Bank of North Dakota (FSBND).
FSBND became BankNorth in 2018 when it acquired First State Bank of Warner, a community bank in South Dakota. BankNorth now has 10 branches, in Arthur, Buffalo, Casselton, Enderlin, LaMoure, Lisbon, Marion and Oakes in North Dakota, and Aberdeen and Warner in South Dakota.
Centerfield opened their doors in April of 2011 under the ownership of Dan & Gina Haugen. The building had sat empty for 5 years prior to their opening. The idea started when Dan’s teaching position at the Hutterite colony was eliminated when the colony split. They had some tough decisions to make, try to do something new here or move on? They decided that LaMoure was home and wanted to stay, and even though it was scary and a huge risk. And so began Centerfield Bar & Grill.
Dan & Gina completely gutted the front of the building and opened up the entire space to give it an updated look. They created a menu that appealed to a large variety of people with a focus on families and casual dining.
Centerfield is open 6 days a week for dinner and bar business. They feature nightly specials, made from scratch soups and fresh never frozen burgers and steaks. The Friday night buffets are always popular. They have a separate bar area where they feature local sporting events, nightly happy hours and drink specials. The bar also displays photos of the history of LaMoure baseball. The large banquet room makes them the perfect location for banquets, weddings, meeting and other large gatherings. They provide everything needed in one easy, convenient location and feel that it is their job to make each group event perfect and will do whatever it takes to make that happen. As the holiday season approaches, Centerfield would love to host your company or family parties and gift cards are the perfect and easy gift that everyone wants and enjoys.
Running a small restaurant is hard work and an endeavor that takes passion and perseverance. As owners, they often work 7 days a week with hours that vary from early in the morning until the early morning hours of the next day at times. One of the biggest challenges is how the business fluctuates on a daily basis. It’s hard to be prepared when you just never know how many people will be there each day.
Dan, Gina and their staff are proud to be a part of the LaMoure community. They strive to be good community partners by being involved and volunteering for the chamber, Imagination Library, LaMoure youth baseball, and many of the local fundraising events. They also provide many organizations with the perfect location for their fundraising events and enjoy helping make those events great. Centerfield provide jobs for those who are looking for part time hours to make extra income and often give high school employees their first jobs. We try to be a good partner with our community and we always hope that means our community will support us also.
