LaMoure Area Recreation
Regardless what your hobbies and interests are, here in our area we offer something for everyone. This is the outdoor enthusiasts heaven. Hunting is one of our areas top forms of recreation. There are also many funtime activities to participate in throughout our summer months, along with quite a few winter activities for playing in the snow.
Basketball
Small court located in Sunset Park.
Bowling

Open to the public. Sanctioned leagues. Men’s leagues Tuesday’s and Thursday nights starting at 8:00 p.m. Women’s leagues Monday nights at 7:30 p.m. and Thursday afternoons at 1:30 p.m. Mixed Couples League every other Friday night at 8:00 p.m.
Fishing
Fishing is top notch at Lake LaMoure and the James River Damsite. Walleye, Northern and Perch are the favorites from these locations. More information is available at www.state.nd.us/gnf/fishing
Hunting/Trapping
Wildlife is abundant in the area. With hunting and trapping available for such things as deer, wild turkey, and other small game and furbearers. Residents and non-residents alike enjoy the variety of seasons and prey. More detailed information can be found at www.state.nd.us/gnf/hunting or at Hay’s Hunting Lodge. James River Sportsmen’s Club has added a 3D Archery range and trapshooting.
Boating/Jetskiing/Waterskiing
Lake LaMoure, five miles south of LaMoure, offers a variety of fun in the sun activities, including boating, jetskiing, and waterskiing. You need to bring your own toys though.
Canoeing
Lake LaMoure has some beautiful, secluded canoeing areas. A popular canoe run has been the James River, starting in Grand Rapids and canoeing down to the James River Damsite in LaMoure. You need to bring your own canoe though, as we don’t have rentals. Fort Ransom State Park offers canoeing within the park and also has rentals available.

Open to the public. Located 12 miles northwest of LaMoure on County Road 61. Nine hole course nestled along the James River. Grass greens.
Ice Skating
Outdoor skating rink Northwest side of Sunset Park
Parks/Playgrounds
Sunset Park
Located on the northwest edge of town. Full set of modern playground equipment. Home of the city park. Modern bathroom facilities.
Depot Park
Located in downtown LaMoure next to the railroad depot.
Dam Site Park
Located on the southwest side of town on the James River. Campgrounds, popular fishing spot. Memorial Park Located 12 miles north west of LaMoure on County Rd. 61. Campgrounds with electric hook-ups, concession stand, playground equipment. Home of the LaMoure County Museum and LaMoure County Summer Musical Theater.
Rodeo Grounds
James River Riders Arena:
Located on the East outskirts of town. Home of the James River Riders Horse Club.
Softball/Baseball Fields
Townsend Field Baseball Park
Bleacher seating. Babe Ruth and American Legion Leagues.
Leroy Good Softball Complex
3 well manicured ball fields. Women’s and Men’s sanctioned leagues. Located next to Sunset Park.
Theater
LaMoure County Summer Musical Theatre is closed.
Snowmobiling
Snowmobiling is a popular sport here during the winter months. Bring your sled and enjoy our gorgeous snow.
Swimming
LaMoure City Swimming Pool
Temporarily closed.
Lake LaMoure
Located 5 miles southeast of LaMoure with a public swimming beach. The lake offers four seasons of fun. In the Spring, the waters are great for fishing. In the summer, the lake comes alive with boats, jet skis, fishermen and swimmers. Fall is beautiful on the lake with the changing colors. Anglers enjoy ice fishing in the winter months. James River Sportsman Club
Trap shooting every Thursday night throughout the summer at 6:00 P.M. 40 3-D targets archery shoot in August. Indoor archery shoot in the winter in Verona.
